Christmas Loot

I just had to post my movie and comic-related Christmas loot. I also want to thank my family and friends for giving me such great gifts, and even more for understanding that books and movies are what I truly love, nerdy as that may seem. Thank you!

Nothing says comic book nerd like action figures. I’m a big Dr. Strange fan, so receiving this gift was a real delight. Haven’t decided whether or not I’ll take Stephen Strange out of the case or just display him as is at my work desk.

It was a great day for books and movies! On the noir side, we have the American Noir box set from Library of America which consists of:

CRIME NOVELS: AMERICAN NOIR OF THE 1930s & 40s
The Postman Always Rings Twice by James M. Cain
They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? by Horace McCoy
Thieves Like Us by Edward Anderson
The Big Clock by Kenneth Fearing
Nightmare Alley by William Lindsay Gresham
I Married a Dead Man by Cornell Woolrich

CRIME NOVELS: AMERICAN NOIR OF THE 1950s
The Killer Inside Me by Jim Thompson
The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith
Pick-Up by Charles Willeford
Down There by David Goodis
The Real Cool Killers by Chester Himes

Most of these I have not read, so I can’t wait to delve into these classic novels.

I’ve been wanting to read David Thomson’s How to Watch a Movie since it was released last month, even though everyone in my family says, “Andy, I think you’ve got that down solid.”

Ah, but the most unexpected book was A Comprehensive Encyclopedia of Film Noir: The Essential Reference Guide by John Grant, a massive 600+ page reference book that’s absolutely loaded with information on films from the noir era and neo-noir. (Thanks, Cindy!) Although this is a reference book, I’m going to read it cover-to-cover.

And then the films, Don’t Look Back, Better Call Saul Season One, and The Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis Collection Vol. 1, which includes:

My Friend IrmaMy Friend Irma Goes WestThat’s My Boy,
Sailor Beware, Jumping Jacks,The StoogeScared Stiff, and The Caddy.

And some great graphic novels
