It’s so close you can almost feel the smoke from Robert Mitchum’s cigarette… That’s right, Noir City DC 2016 starts in just two days! As you can see from the lineup above, it’s going to be a great event at the AFI Silver Theater and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, MD. You can see the entire calendar here and the alphabetical listing here.
If you need further enticement, allow me to present this to you: Noir City DC 2016 will also serve as the American premiere of the film Fritz Lang, a fictionalized account of the master director. You can catch that film on October 22 at 5:00pm and stick around afterward for a newly restored print of Lang’s masterpiece M (1931).
Need more reason to attend Noir City DC? Okay, then… Film noir expert Foster Hirsch will introduce all of the festival films on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 15 and 16, and the Czar of Noir himself, Eddie Muller, will introduce The Bad and the Beautiful and The Killers (1946) on Friday, Oct. 21 and all of the festival films on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 22 and 23. Any chance you have to hear these guys speak is worth the price of admission and at Noir City DC you’ll have a chance to hear both of them. (It’ll be like going to Film Noir University.)
I wish I could attend the entire festival, but I’m planning to attend for four days: Oct. 15, 17, 21 and 23. Maybe I’ll see you there.
