Just a quick word or two about these new releases. I hope you find these monthly lists helpful. If you’ve been following these posts for awhile, you know that some months are pretty slim and others are exploding (like this month). Although I could include releases from many other countries, I’m going to limit myself primarily to those released in the U.S., UK, and France. I know the European discs will (usually) only work for those with a region-free player, but I hope some of these releases will cause you to consider a region-free device. If you know of any releases of interest outside of these three countries, please feel free to add them in the comments section. Thanks, and thanks for reading.
Now, gear yourself up for an amazing June:
If March was a pretty slim month for film noir releases on Blu-ray and DVD, then April is even more so. I might be stretching the definition of film noir and neo noir a bit for April, but I hope you’ll find something interesting just the same.
March looks to be a slim month for film noir and neonoir, offering little that we haven’t seen before in one form or another. But since February has been been pretty tough on our wallets, the scant offerings in March might give us time to catch our breaths before April. Here’s what I found for next month:
Save your coins and get ready to cash in those gift cards you got for Christmas. February’s noir titles might just have you looking underneath sofa cushions to find all your loose change.
I certainly hope everyone gets the film noir titles they want for Christmas, but there’s lots of great stuff coming out once the New Year gets underway. Here are a few January noir titles worth considering:
August has been a great month for film noir releases, so much so that anything afterward seems bound to disappoint. September, however, contains a few surprises…
Man, things have been busy on the comics scene, but in a good way. First, Derek and I recently reviewed four new titles on a recent podcast:
If you’re into comics and aren’t getting the monthly Previews catalog, you should. For the price of one comic book, you can find out about all the comics and graphic novels (as well as apparel, toys, statues, etc.) coming out in the next few months. Derek and Andy K. do a monthly podcast at The Comics Alternative covering the Previews catalog and I highly recommend it.
A couple of my favorite creators will have books coming out soon including Copra Round Two from Michel Fiffe and the next installment of Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tales: The Underground Abductor by Nathan Hale. That’s only two titles from hundreds that you’ll read about in Previews, so be sure to check out the podcast and grab a copy of Previews.

It may take awhile, but I hope to review several films in the next few days. Many of these have been brewing for awhile, so I’ll have to refer to my notes (or just watch them again). My current “To Review” list is as follows:
Snowpiercer (2013) Joon-ho Bong
Under the Skin (2013) Jonathan Glazer
The Lusty Men (1952) Nicholas Ray
Twin Peaks Season One (1990)
Desperate (1947) Anthony Mann
Il Sorpasso (1962) Dino Risi
The Driver (1978) Walter Hill
Dr. Mabuse the Gambler (1922) Fritz Lang
Let me know the ones you’d most like to see soon and I’ll try to move them to the top of the list.
